Venice

We have started our steady stream of visitors in Rome and have been really busy spending time with them! This is why it is taking me forever to post.

In my opinion, Venice is the coolest city in Italy. It is absolutely gorgeous, and there are no cars on the island. There are only small boats that dock up to people’s front doors! We decided to stay in our first hostel, which turned out to be really nice and clean. Our room overlooked a small, quiet, residential canal. It was perfect.

We explored St.Marks square, the church and Doge’s Palace the first day, hitting most of the tourist spots. Along the way, gondoliers were everywhere practically begging you to take a gondola ride. David and I decided to walk away from the tourist areas, where we found a gondolier and chartered a 35 minute ride during sunset. Although, “Alex” didn't sing, he took us through the quiet, romantic canals of Venice. It was great, but never has 35 minutes gone by faster. One of those life experiences…

That night we wandered a little deeper into the streets to find a small, authentic Venetian restaurant. We ended up at a small restaurant where the local Venetian specialty, Pasta Nero (black pasta) was served. David is always up for trying new things, so he decided to order the pasta, which is made with Squid ink. We still don’t know exactly what the squid “ink” was. The dish looked like tar and pasta. Gross. David had fun eating it, and it was an experience in itself.

Before we knew it, we had spent the weekend in Venice. In the past two weekends, we had seen two of the most romantic cities in the world….We can’t wait for what the next month with visitors will bring!
